Impact of Climate Change on Sustainable Pastoral Livelihoods in Loima Sub-County, Turkana County, Kenya

Climate change and variability have adversely affected communities’ pastoral livelihoods in Kenya. The study aimed to investigate sustaining a changing climate Loima Sub-County, Turkana County, A total of 59 pastoralists were interviewed using questionnaire. data was analysed the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software Version 22. SPSS employed descriptive statistical techniques like frequencies, percentages, cross-tabulations proportions, means, standard deviation. Pie charts, graphs, figures, tables used present analysis output. has been observed vary continuously by pastoralists. hazards mostly reported livestock diseases frequency droughts. findings also indicated that keepers preferred graze their on mountains/hills. Pasture water availability security determine pattern movement. Pastoralists adopted various strategies cope with climatic changes. Some these included diverse utilisation products, controlled grazing, herd diversification, labour distribution among household members. In conclusion, effects are evident. However, they diversified ways adapting coping catastrophes sustain themselves. To avert change, agriculture extension officers should focus value addition provision insurance schemes, veterinary services, disease surveillance. Furthermore, needs develop enforce policies appropriate contingency plans. Among recommended are- management grazing areas, regulations migratory routes, rules governing use sources.
